Suspect in killing of rapper PnB Rock is extradited to L.A. to face murder charge
LOS ANGELES (AP) – A man charged with murder in the fatal shooting of rapper PnB Rock was extradited from Los Angeles to California to face the murder charge.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Detective Mark Munoz said the 44-year-old man was being extradited about 12:15 p.m. ET to Los Angeles where his preliminary hearing will be held Tuesday.
Munoz said the man was held Monday in the Los Angeles County Jail by immigration authorities but was expected to be held in California until Tuesday.
Munoz said the man is considered a suspect in the December 2008 killing of PnB Rock and was charged in the shooting on Dec. 6, 2008 in the parking lot of the Hollywood Recording Studio in Los Angeles after the rapper was shot during a performance.
Rock’s body was found a day later in the parking lot, the LAPD said.
The rapper was shot after the two-man show headlined by Rock turned “rocky” according to police.
Earlier Monday, the LAPD said the man was arrested in the shooting of PnB Rock and then led deputies to the recording studio where he’d fled.
The man then took a flight to Los Angeles where an LAPD SWAT team captured him.
The man was questioned and was taken into custody Monday morning after Los Angeles detectives arrested him at Los Angeles International Airport.
The U.S. Marshals Service says they picked the man up at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was being held at Los Angeles County Jail.
The U.S. Marshals Service says he is an illegal immigrant and should be deported.
Deputies responded to the studio parking lot in the 8800 block of Santa Monica Boulevard after a report of a shooting about 8:45 p.m. Friday, and found the rapper had been shot in the head.
He was pronounced dead at UCLA Medical Center.
A second man was arrested hours later in a motel room, saying he had been shot during a fight with his girlfriend. Authorities said it doesn’t appear the shooting is connected to the rapper. The case remains under investigation.
