World’s only openly gay active pro footballer is concerned for LGBTQ community ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup
There may be only one openly gay active pro footballer – but he’ll be helping out, one way or another, during the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Miles Swagger, known as the Ultimate Warrior, will be providing life skills sessions alongside his team-mates.
He told the BBC: “The world is very homophobic. There’s a lot of violence around, and I’m just trying to do my bit, being a role model for a gay life.”
Swagger, 37, said he’s “not there yet” when it comes to coming out to his family and friends.
But he is keen to show them that it’s possible to be gay and still lead a normal life.
“I’m just a role model for everybody, it’s a really important role to make people better people,” he said.
